I love the subtlety of this song - so quiet, yet so rich.

A new, unreleased track from Panda Bear was released on the Internet today called “The Preakness.” It’s a mellow track that is exclusively on the KEEP Cassette that comes with the shoes that the band designed for KEEP Shoes. It’s a shame that this didn’t make it on Tomboy because it really is beautiful.

It’s more in the line of “Ponytail” than “Surfer’s Hymn” in that it’s subdued and more introspective. The vocals for every new song we’ve been hearing from Panda have always seemed to be the best we’ve heard so far, and this song keeps up with that. It’s very minimal but the layering tells of a far more complex, brilliant construction.

Django Reinhardt Night at PIFA

This is a must-attend PIFA event as far as we’re concerned. The Woodmere Museum plays host again to a tribute to pioneer, gypsy jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt. Reinhardt became famous after having to invent a style all his own after a fire injury paralyzed two of his playing fingers. The result was a fingered style that no one in the jazz world had ever seen before. He later went on to found the Quinetette du Hot Club de France, a well-known jazz ensemble composed only of strings, which was unheard of at the time. Jazz guitarist David Joel will play some of Reinhardt’s best work and samplings of fine Frnech wine will be available. The concert is Oo La La! April 29th from 6-8 p.m.. Tickets are $10.

What I’m about to do is usually considered “wrong” with music blogging according to “real writers.” I can’t think of anything creative or want to carefully craft some well thought out blurb of text. I just really, really like this song and wanted to share with you that they’ve got an EP coming out at the beginning of May called The January EP. Also, I find their 2010 album Pigeons is underrated and I think you should go back and listen.
